How to Apply

  • Step 1 : Visit the Portal – Open the official UPSC application portal at https://upsconline.nic.in to start the online process.

  • Step 2 : Universal Registration – Create your account and complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) to generate your permanent Universal Registration Number (URN).

  • Step 3 : Provide Identity Details – Enter valid information from a government-issued Photo ID Card, preferably an Aadhaar Card, which you must carry to the exam hall.

  • Step 4: Live Photo Capture – Upload a standard scanned photograph and capture your live image using a webcam through the portal's interface.

  • Step 5 : Upload Scanned Signature – Sign three times vertically on plain white paper using black ink, scan it, and upload the image file.

  • Step 6 : Complete the Application – Fill out the Common Application Form (CAF) with your category details, personal information, and final MBBS educational qualification status.

  • Step 7: Choose Exam Centre – Select your preferred examination centre from the available list on a first-apply-first-allot basis.

  • Step 8 : Pay Application Fee – Submit the exam fee of ₹200 via net banking, card payment, or UPI (Female, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates are fully exempted).

  • Step 9 : Submit and Save Details – Finally lock the examination-specific module, download the generated confirmation page, and keep your static Application Number for future reference.  

Selection Process

  • Stage 1 : Written Examination (Computer Based Test) — Candidates must clear two objective-type multiple-choice papers (Paper I and Paper II) of MBBS standard, carrying 250 marks each (500 marks total), with a penalty of one-third (0.33) marks deducted for every wrong answer.

  • Stage 2 : Detailed Application Form (DAF) Submission — Candidates who qualify in the written exam must login to the online portal within a 15-day window to upload their educational documents, proof of passing MBBS, and category certificates.

  • Stage 3 : Personality Test / Interview — Eligible candidates undergo an interview carrying 100 marks, designed to assess general knowledge, academic ability, intellectual curiosity, integrity, and leadership traits.

  • Stage 4 : Document Verification — The Commission takes up the physical verification of eligibility conditions against the candidate's original documents only after they have successfully qualified for the interview stage.

  • Stage 5 : Physical and Medical Standards Test — Candidates must successfully undergo a medical evaluation to confirm they are physically and medically fit according to the prescribed standards for the respective services.
