Selection Process

The selection process for the Excise and Taxation Inspector (Advertisement No. 01/2026) involves the following sequential steps:

  • Written Examination (Objective Type): Candidates must appear for a competitive exam consisting of two parts (Part A and Part B).

  • Punjabi Language Qualification (Part A): Candidates must pass a mandatory qualifying test in Punjabi (Matric standard) with at least 50% marks; these marks are not counted toward the final merit.

  • Subject-Specific Evaluation (Part B): Candidates are evaluated based on their performance in Part B, which relates to the required educational qualifications and includes negative marking ($0.25$ marks deducted for each wrong answer).

  • Merit List Preparation: A merit list is created solely based on the marks obtained in Part B of the written examination.

  • Tie-Breaking (if applicable): In case of equal marks, priority is given based on older age, followed by higher percentage in the required educational qualification, and finally higher Matriculation marks.

  • Counseling and Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates from the merit list are called for physical verification of their original documents and eligibility.

  • Final Recommendation: Candidates who successfully complete the verification and meet all eligibility criteria are recommended to the department for appointment based on the final merit and available vacancies.
